College Essay Coaching Services
College essays are one of the few places in the application where students get to speak for themselves. At Sharon J. Callahan Coaching, I provide personalized, virtual college essay coaching that helps students move from uncertainty to clarity and thoughtful self-expression. Each session is designed to meet students exactly where they are — whether they’re just getting started or refining final drafts.
Personal Statement Coaching
The personal statement is one of the most important parts of a student’s college application — and often the most intimidating. It’s where students move beyond grades and test scores to share who they are and what matters to them.
In our one-on-one coaching sessions, I guide students through a supportive, step-by-step process that begins with reflection and conversation before any writing begins. Many students come in feeling pressure to sound impressive or perfect. Instead, I help them slow down, identify meaningful experiences and uncover the values and qualities that shape who they are becoming.
Together, we work to ensure each personal statement:
- Adds personality and helps the application stand out during admissions
- Reflects the student’s authentic voice and personality
- Tells a cohesive, meaningful story rooted in real experience
- Highlights growth, resilience, curiosity, and character
- Showcases passions, interests, and motivation
- Helps admissions readers understand not just what the student has done, but who they are and how they think
All writing is done by the student. My role is to coach, guide, question, and refine so the final work remains authentic, ethical, and truly their own.
Most importantly, students leave this process not only with a finished personal statement, but with greater confidence in their voice and a deeper understanding of how to express themselves with purpose.
Supplemental Essay Coaching
Supplemental essays give students the opportunity to go deeper — showing colleges not only who they are, but why a particular school is the right fit for them and why they are a strong fit for the school.
In our one-on-one coaching sessions, I help students carefully break down each prompt, understand what the admissions committee is truly asking, and respond in a way that is complete and thoughtful.
Together, we ensure each supplemental essay:
- Clearly and thoroughly answers the specific prompt
- Shows that the student has done meaningful research and understands the mission and values of the school
- Demonstrates genuine interest and mutual fit
- Allows the student to show shared values with the institution
- Provides another opportunity to showcase character, leadership, and personal qualities
- Allows space to expand on accomplishments or activities
- Ensures the admissions committee receives a full, well-rounded picture of the student’s strengths
All writing is completed entirely by the student. My role is to guide, question, and support the process — never to take over the writing itself.
